I Wrote About Trump and Hitler—Then a Nazi Showed Up
A Chilling (and Almost Predictable) Reminder of Who Trump Really Appeals To
Hello, Fellow Seekers of Sanity,
If you haven’t read my latest article, “Yes, Trump Is Like Hitler, But Not in the Ways You Think,” let me give you an extra incentive: it managed to provoke a number of responses from an honest-to-goodness Nazi sympathizer—or, let’s be real, probably an actual Nazi. Yes, folks, I’ve officially arrived.
This commenter didn’t just disagree with me; they came out swinging with a greatest-hits collection of Hitler apologia and antisemitic conspiracy theories so old and debunked they crumble on contact. Apparently, according to him, Hitler was a misunderstood hero, Jews were responsible for both World Wars, the Holocaust never happened, and the rest of us have just been duped by “official” history. It might almost be pathetic if it weren’t so deeply vile.
Now, I encourage you to read the article and then scroll down to the comments section to see this masterpiece of hate-cloaked-in-history for yourself. My rebuttal is there as well, where I took great pleasure in dismantling his nonsense. If the commenter was hoping to outwit me, let’s just say his plan worked about as well as Hitler’s decision to invade Russia in the winter.
But on a serious note, this exchange is profoundly revealing. It perfectly illustrates the central point of my article: Trump’s rhetoric doesn’t just flirt with authoritarianism—it attracts the exact kind of people who idolize it. The existence of this commenter is proof positive that the MAGA movement appeals to those with a deeply dangerous worldview, the kind that thrives on scapegoating, lies, and fearmongering.
For some additional context, let me draw your attention to Daniel Jonah Goldhagen’s Hitler’s Willing Executioners, which demolishes the myth that ordinary Germans were clueless or reluctant participants in the Holocaust. Goldhagen shows that many Germans, steeped in a culture of antisemitism, didn’t just tolerate genocide—they embraced it. Today, we see echoes of that same dynamic in Trump’s America: a base willing to believe absurdities, embrace bigotry, and march in lockstep behind a leader who exploits their grievances for his own gain.
So, if you’ve been wondering whether Trumpism is dangerous, wonder no more. It’s not just the history-denying Nazi sympathizer in my comments; it’s the tens of millions of people enabling a political movement that feeds on fear and thrives on division.
Take a moment to read the article and the comments—it’s all there, proof in black and white (and, frankly, in red flags). And to my Nazi commenter: thanks for showing up to confirm everything I’ve been saying. Next time, bring an argument that isn’t cribbed from 1940s propaganda posters.
Yours in astonishment that we even have to deal with this nonsense,
Mersault

Yes, Trump Is Like Hitler, but Not in the Ways You Think
Beyond the caricatures lies a chilling blueprint: how both leaders exploited grievances, scapegoated the vulnerable, and built myths of strength to dismantle democracy.
Your support—whether through liking, restacking, a paid subscription, or using the Buy Me a Coffee button—helps fuel my efforts to expose the hypocrisy, corruption, cruelty, and lies of Trump, the Republican Party, and their enablers.
I went back to read the article and good lord is that commenter an idiot, but a prime example of how Trump got re-elected. The commenter claims “no forensic evidence”. I guess he just ignored the voluminous amounts of evidence the Nazis themselves compiled. They kept very meticulous records of their atrocities.
That same person replied on my comment in your article, and he/she/it tried to rebut my comment, and another reply, with snide remarks. It was an outright anti-Jewish rant by that account. Thank you for your detailed and intelligent responses to the hate.
